The past few months have introduced new challenges for security professionals to face as budgets were significantly changed, and short-staffed, overworked teams defend against influxes of known and zero-day attacks. You think you need more security products. Do you? Why are attackers still getting through despite the security controls you already have? Security products are often not working optimally because they have not been configured properly. For instance, Gartner estimates that 95% of firewall breaches are caused by simple firewall misconfigurations. Also, security controls drift over time, requiring constant testing to ensure they are working as intended as your enterprise grows and changes. Having more security products does not equal more security. This is good news because it means that deploying more security tools does not necessarily yield greater security. First, use the tools you already have, but use them better.
