The event driven enterprise, and the changing role of event-driven architecture (EDA)

Everything that happens in your company is an event.  For decades, companies have propagated those events between systems in order to automate their business processes. Payments, orders, invoices, customer interactions and more are passed between systems. But rarely are these events made easily accessible for new applications to leverage, they are only available through specifically constructed integrations.  Until recently, the easiest and most common route for new applications to gather the data they needed was over synchronous APIs. However, with the introduction of new standards such as AsyncAPI we are seeing a shift towards making asynchronous events readily accessible too. This will enable better enable developers to discover what data is available via events, streamlining application innovation, and simplifying setup for other asynchronous use cases.

During our conversation, we'll address the following topics:

  1. What EDA patterns are prevalent and emerging at this time?
  2. What architectural considerations do these introduce?
  3. What are the differences between how we expose and manage events compared to API management?

Talking Points

  • What event driven architecture patterns do you need to support going forward?
  • How do application developers discover what events are available to subscribe to across and beyond the enterprise today?
  • How long does it take to onboard new subscribers of events today?
  • How easy is it for producers of events make their topics safely available to broader communities today?
